My wife and I are taking a budgeting class sponsored by our church. One of the members in our class is a doctor who does humanitarian work in Africa. He said that some of the people who he treats in Africa live on only $1 per day. I wonder if I could do that? Probably not because my commute to work costs about $6 per day.
Sometimes we feel poor because we live in a super-rich neighborhood where everyone drives a luxury car and seems to have everything they want. However, poverty is all about perspective isn't it? To the Africans who live on $1 a day, we would be considered super-rich and they would chastise us for ever complaining about not driving a Lexus or BMW.
